This project began in April 2009 and concluded early fall.
It was fun working on the Berry patch sign, constructing a patchwork quilt from lumber. And I was in my lettering element creating the stitching on Berry Patch letters.
I enjoyed imagineering the Flowers section using found objects: my old garden hose, nozzle and spigot which were painted cad orange. It neatly became the “clothesline” for the Flowers letters cut from thick building insulation material. This stuff is like styrofoam only softer.
I rendered most of the lettering in the store. The Ravinia lettering just sang to me with the linear ascending treatment. And a big ole 1” painters brush was used in demo and store front (“Thank you North Shore...”). Once again, all calligraphic prowess & trained lettering techniques were abandon as I desperately forgot the rules!
